CIPS - A Continuous InPatient Spell is a complete admission of care in one hospital/provider, consisting of one or more FCEs.
FCE - A Finished Consultant Episode is the complete session of care from one specific consultant in one hospital/provider. A patient may be transferred between consultants during an admission and thus have more than one FCE in a hospital stay.
